From making money with stock photography to starting a business consultancy, digital nomad jobs aren’t limited to web development and travel writing. There are plenty of ways to work online that will enable a location independent lifestyle – the question is, which one is right for you?

Would you like to get paid to write or is graphic design more your thing? Perhaps you’re a good teacher and could do some online tutoring, or maybe you could sell your travel photographs?

Here’s a brief list (in no particular order) of some less obvious jobs compatible with online freelancing. Could you be a:

Stock Contributor? If you like taking photos, making videos, creating illustrations or designing icons, you have something worth selling. Although you’re unlikely to strike it rich, it is possible to make money through selling stock images if you’re willing to work hard to build your portfolio.

Graphic Designer? If you have a good eye for colour and composition, and you’re willing invest some time in learning the latest software, a career in graphic design could be for you. Although this is a really competitive area, talent and hard work always wins out.

Social Media Consultant? If you haven’t been living in a cave you’ll already know that social media is big business. If you’re a terrific tweeter or a facebook fanatic, consider sharing your in depth knowledge with businesses who want to harness the power of social media to promote their brand.

Business Mentor? Got a history of entrepreneurship? If you have the skills and knowledge, you could act as a consultant to get start-ups off the ground or help businesses in trouble. You really need to know your stuff but this could be a really rewarding way to make some money on the road.

Online Tutor? If you’re a university graduate consider tutoring! It’s a great way to share your knowledge and make some money online. You can tutor via skype or offer feedback via email – and there are tons of students out there who need a bit of extra help.

Online Shopkeeper? You don’t need a brick and mortar building to set up shop these days, or even a warehouse to store your products. Through the miracle of dropshipping you can run a retail business without ever needing to handle the product yourself!

Remote Project Manager? With more and more businesses using modern technology to employ workers remotely, many companies are in dire need of someone capable of managing and co-ordinating the work of people all over the globe. If you can maintain an online presence to oversee projects spanning several time zones, this could be the job for you!

And that’s just for starters! Can you think of any other digital nomad jobs beyond the obvious?
