Digital Nomadism – a brief intro.

Ever been in a position when you just wanted to tell your boss to shove it up his arse and storm out of the building, never to be seen again? Have you ever dreamed of working while traveling and setting up your office wherever you find yourself?  Have you ever dreamed of becoming a digital nomad?

Most people have this misconception that digital nomads are nothing but glorified backpackers. Although a good fraction of digital nomads are, in fact, glorified backpackers, it’s not entirely true of all of us.  Life on the road is a big challenge – there are lots of things to adjust to, and one of them is not having a steady income. At least not quite as steady as that which an office job could provide.

What is a digital nomad?

What is a digital nomad? How does one qualify as a digital nomad? Digital nomads are defined as people who rely on digital technologies to perform their work duties whilst maintaining the freedom to travel at will. This certainly beats having to sit inside the office from 9 to 5, Mondays to Fridays. What could be better than having office with a view that is constantly changing?

One day you could be looking at the magnificent skyline of Istanbul , then next week taking in the epic Hagia Sofia while hearing the call to prayer. The month after, you could be looking at the cherry blossoms of Tokyo while typing away on your laptop.

Careers for digital nomads

If you’re interested in exploring the digital nomad lifestyle, there are careers which will allow you to work while you travel. But be forewarned, being a digital nomad is not all fun and parties. You can’t always be sipping margaritas on beach, occasionally lifting a languid finger to type a few words on you laptop. Work is work and this means you have to put in effort and time if you want to survive being a digital nomad. So, what careers are suitable for digital nomads?

If you are creative and artistic and you have the computer talents to match, consider a career in web design. You can be your own boss, in charge of your own time, earn money and travel whenever you like.
