Barcelona, Spain

What to See?
The zoo. Definitely the zoo. Well, as long as you like zoos obviously. Barcelona zoo is a fantastic day out for all ages, there is so much to see and do that you really do need a whole day to explore and enjoy this brilliant place. The range of animals found at the zoo is very impressive, as is the space afforded to them and the living conditions. Tickets cost around 20 euros for an adult but can be purchased online to receive a 10% discount. Seriously, go to the zoo. It’s cosmic.

Where to stay?
Our trip to Barcelona was short and we opted to spend the night in a hostel, Hostel New York. It was pretty good, the staff were friendly and let us check in early which was great, it was also very cheap. At the end of the day you get what you pay for and if you’re just after a place to sleep and wash then this hostel is for you. Obviously, being such a bustling city your choice of places to stay is pretty endless and there are options to suit all price ranges.

Where to eat?
Depending on which part of the city you are in the prices can vary dramatically, we stayed in Barcelona’s gothic quarter and found many great places to eat offering all kinds of food at very affordable prices. There is a fantastic Italian place selling fresh homemade pasta for about 5 euros a dish, I’m afraid that the Spanish red wine had caught up with me by that point and I’m oblivious to the name. All I can remember is that it was good! Hope that helps!

Where to drink?
As with the food we mainly stayed around the gothic quarter and tried out many different bars, as an Englishman with an ear for Brit pop and indie music I must recommend the Manchester Bar, a nice bar with a great, unique atmosphere.

Top Tip.
Go to the zoo. Don’t get the overnight ferry to Ibiza unless you can afford a room.
